Textual Analysis; Kate Nash

CD;
Front Cover

Image
The front cover of the album shoes the artist in a red dress, red usually connotes danger and seductive however the artist's body language is very shy connoting she has many different layers to her work and goes against the norms. The image is very friendly and girly with a yellow house and daises giving a fairy tale feel to the cover, this may reflect the artist work as she may use her work to tell stories.
Copy
The text stands out from the blue background due to the white colour. The font used is also very child like connoting an innocence to the artist along with a playful side.

Inlay

There is no image on the inlay of the CD leaving it very simple and plain. The white could connote a innocents to the artist. The image on the CD is of a cake, this could connote that the artist work is made by herself and has a rawness to it whilst the flowers show her playful, girly, quirky side.

Back Cover

The same font is used on the back cover as on the front. The text is not neat and looks almost hand written connoting a childlike feel again to the audience. The font stands out from the dark blue background and there is also production and copy right information in smaller font at the bottom of the CD cover.

Music Video;

Image
The beginning of the video shows the audience a man and a woman and a household making them see that the video is centered around the couple, however the woman has a close up connoting she is the artist. The body language used by both characters is very tense and hostile. The house and the artists clothing has a very vintage, girly feel to them showing the artists personality making the audience relate to her more. There is also the use of props such as toothbrushes and socks used to show the characters in the video, these are every day objects that people see allowing the audience to again relate to the artist.
Editing
The video is full of straight cuts, this helps to keep the audience focused on the story of video. There is also the use of stop-motion in the video giving it a more quirky edge. The props used for the stop-motion relate to the story of the video and lyrics and show the relationship between the characters in the video. The lighting in the video also connotes that the song is light hearted even though it comes across as very emotional. The hand held camera also adds to the emotion of the unsteady couple and gives the video a more relatable feel.
Narrative
The video relates to the lyrics of the song and shows a relationship between a male and female character that is falling apart. The audience relate to the woman in the story as she has more close ups and her side of the story is told more than the male. She is also shown to be powerful as she leaves the man at the end of the video however she is shown running a household and baking cakes and cleaning throughout the video fitting in with stereotypes.

Album Advert;

These images where used for the inside booklet of album and also for adverts for advertising the album's release.  The posters included the artist's name, album tittles and release date. The images are very fun and quirky. There is a lot of bright colours used and the images show many different sides to the artist. The images are very cute and youthful keeping with the theme of the front cover and hinting to the artists personality.
